About Dodge Challenger
The Dodge Challenger is the name of three generations of automobiles produced by American automobile manufacturer Dodge (two of which are pony cars). However, Dodge used the Challenger name for the first time in 1959 to market a “value version” of the full-sized Coronet Silver Challenger.
The first generation Dodge Challenger pony car was produced from 1970 to 1974 in hardtop and convertible body styles, sharing major components with the Plymouth Barracuda.
From 1978 to 1983, the second generation was a badge engineered Mitsubishi Galant Lambda, a coupe version of an economical compact car.
The current generation is a pony car that debuted in early 2008 as a competitor to the evolved fifth generation Ford Mustang and the fifth generation Chevrolet Camaro.
Stellantis announced in November 2021 that the 2023 model year would be the final model year for both the Dodge Charger and Dodge Challenger, as the company will focus its future plans on electric vehicles rather than fossil fuel powered vehicles, especially with the Environmental Protection Agency requiring tougher automotive emissions standards for the 2023 model year.
